Adaptive Field Hockey

Sport for All.
Sport for Life.

All Starz is the USA Field Hockey national league for athletes with intellectual, developmental, and adaptive needs. All ages. All abilities. No testing required.

About the Program

What Is
All Starz?

All Starz is USA Field Hockey's national league for adaptive hockey — the only program of its kind under an NGB. It is built around a simple idea: everyone deserves a team, a coach, and a chance to grow through sport.

We serve athletes of all ages — from young children to adults — across the full range of intellectual, developmental, physical, and other adaptive needs. There is no eligibility testing. Athletes are placed into divisions based on skill and pace of play, not diagnosis.

Programs operate as part of a USA Field Hockey affiliated club or as a standalone team. Athletes play a 6v6 indoor format, compete within the national league, and — for qualifying athletes — may be identified for the Hockey ii national team pathway.

How Programs
Are Organized

🏑
By Skill & Pace

Divisions are set by speed of play, game intensity, and competitive vs. social preference — not by age or diagnosis. Focus on what athletes can do.

👥
All Ages Welcome

All Starz serves athletes ages 4 and up, using the USA Field Hockey age and stage development model. No upper age limit. Sport for life means exactly that.

🏟️
Club-Based Play

Teams affiliate with an existing club or form their own. The club structure creates stability, team identity, and a consistent home for athletes year to year.

How to Start
a Program

Starting an All Starz program begins with a conversation with USA Field Hockey Sport Development. Here is the general pathway from interest to first game day.

Step 01
Connect with USA Field Hockey

Reach out to Sport Development at USA Field Hockey. They will walk you through program requirements, affiliation, and resources available to new chapters. This is the required first step.

Step 02
Identify Athletes & Partners

Work with local disability organizations, schools, transition programs, and field hockey clubs to identify interested athletes. Young programs benefit from volunteer support — high school players, scouts, and community groups make strong partners.

Step 03
Secure a Home & Coaches

All Starz runs 6v6 on an indoor surface. Identify a facility and at least one coach. Programs operate at low cost — a key design principle of the format. USA Field Hockey can provide coaching resources and guidance.

Step 04
Affiliate & Play

Once affiliated, your team enters the national All Starz league. Athletes compete within the league, build team identity, and — for qualified athletes — may be considered for the Hockey ii national pathway over time.

The Competitive Tier All Starz is the foundation for Hockey ii

Hockey ii is USA Field Hockey's competitive Para Hockey program — drawing eligible athletes from All Starz for national team selection and international competition, including the FIH Para Hockey World Cup.
